But there's also a second part, known as speciation. So much for one part of the evolutionary process, known as anagenesis, during which a single species is transformed. No one needs to, and no one should, accept evolution merely as a matter of faith.Įvolution is a beautiful concept, more crucial nowadays to human welfare, to medical science, and to our understanding of the world than ever before. Furthermore, the supporting evidence is abundant, various, ever increasing, solidly interconnected, and easily available in museums, popular books, textbooks, and a mountainous accumulation of peer-reviewed scientific studies. The essential points are slightly more complicated than most people assume, but not so complicated that they can't be comprehended by any attentive person. It's also deeply persuasive-a theory you can take to the bank. Sure, we've all heard of Charles Darwin, and of a vague, somber notion about struggle and survival that sometimes goes by the catchall label "Darwinism." But the main sources of information from which most Americans have drawn their awareness of this subject, it seems, are haphazard ones at best: cultural osmosis, newspaper and magazine references, half-baked nature documentaries on the tube, and hearsay.Įvolution is both a beautiful concept and an important one, more crucial nowadays to human welfare, to medical science, and to our understanding of the world than ever before. Many people have never taken a biology course that dealt with evolution nor read a book in which the theory was lucidly explained. Honest confusion and ignorance, among millions of adult Americans, must be still another. Creationist proselytizers and political activists, working hard to interfere with the teaching of evolutionary biology in public schools, are another part. The American public certainly includes a large segment of scriptural literalists-but not that large, not 44 percent. Why are there so many antievolutionists? Scriptural literalism can only be part of the answer. ENGLISH HERITAGE PHOTOGRAPHIC LIBRARY, DOWN HOUSE, KENT By 1854 he was known as a barnacle expert-though not yet an evolutionist. Right: Then, believing no one should speculate about species “who has not minutely described many,” he spent eight years classifying barnacles. (This view, according to more than one papal pronouncement, is compatible with Roman Catholic dogma.) Still fewer Americans, only 12 percent, believed that humans evolved from other life-forms without any involvement of a god. Their discomfort is paralleled by Islamic creationists such means. Many fundamentalist Christians and ultraorthodox Jews take alarm at the thought that human descent from earlier primates contradicts a strict reading of the Book of Genesis. As applied to our own species, Homo sapiens, it can seem more threatening still. It's such a dangerously wonderful and farreaching view of life that some people find it unacceptable, despite the vast body of supporting evidence. We plug our televisions into little wall sockets, measure a year by the length of Earth's orbit, and in many other ways live our lives based on the trusted reality of those theories.Įvolutionary theory, though, is a bit different. They embrace such an explanation confidently but provisionally-taking it as their best available view of reality, at least until some severely conflicting data or some better explanation might come along. That's what scientists mean when they talk about a theory: not a dreamy and unreliable speculation, but an explanatory statement that fits the evidence. Each of these theories is an explanation that has been confirmed to such a degree, by observation and experiment, that knowledgeable experts accept it as fact. Even electricity is a theoretical construct, involving electrons, which are tiny units of charged mass that no one has ever seen. The existence, structure, and dynamics of atoms? Atomic theory. The notion that Earth orbits around the sun rather than vice versa, offered by Copernicus in 1543, is a theory. In the same sense, relativity as described by Albert Einstein is "just" a theory. If you are skeptical by nature, unfamiliar with the terminology of science, and unaware of the overwhelming evidence, you might even be tempted to say that it's "just" a theory. It's a theory about the origin of adaptation, complexity, and diversity among Earth's living creatures. This story appears in the November 2004 issue of National Geographic magazine.Įvolution by natural selection, the central concept of the life's work of Charles Darwin, is a theory.

The front of the mouse slopes slightly, not as dramatic as we’ve seen on other mice, this will usually result in a flatter hand shape when palming the mouse. A soft touch, matte plastic is found on the mouse wherever there isn’t a rubberized grip. The hump of the mouse is average, not as tall as the G703, while not as low to the ground as the Zowie EC mice for example. The shape itself is very comfortable, with a wide base, grippy rubber material and deep comfort grooves on the side. So if you find mice like the Finalmouse mice and Rival 600 to be a good fit for your hand size then the G502 should be a good bet. The mouse is firmly suited for a medium to large hand, here are its measurements:ĭimensions very similar to the Finalmouse Air58/Phantom series, don’t let the wide width fool you, the base is wide but the actual grip width is a more familiar 62 mm. If you ever lose those weights you can order replacements off of Amazon. If you’re not familiar, the G502 HERO is an ergonomic mouse, the mouse is a heavyweight coming in at 121 grams with the option of adding more weight via 3.6 gram tuning weights. In all likelihood you’re familiar with the shape of the G502, it’s a classic shape that’s been around for years, the best selling gaming mouse of all time. That’s basically it! The G502 Lightspeed delivers a great wireless experience in a classic mouse, at a premium, it costs approximately as much as the G Pro Wireless and G903, so if you’re looking to cord-cut that classic ergo shape, you’ll have to pony up to do so. Outside of a slightly larger G logo on the mouse, the G502 retains its aggressive gamer aesthetic. The scroll wheel is rubber coated and thinner to save some weight. The G502 Lightspeed actually manages to be lighter than original by a couple of grams even with all the new wireless tech inside. To make space for the powerplay puck, the weight system has been redesigned. The mouse can be charged wirelessly via the powerplay mat and puck. The G502 has a rated 48 hour battery life of continuous use, less with the RGB turned on. You can expect the same wireless performance, no latency and a flawless tracking experience but in the classic G502 shape. Taking advantage of the power efficiency of the Hero sensor, the G502 is now a wireless mouse much like the rest of the Logitech lineup. This review was initially made for the G502 Hero, here’s what you need to know about how the Lightspeed differs and improves on the Hero, Proteus Spectrum and Proteus Core. See Price on Amazon The new G502 Lightspeed This big boy is still around and it still has a great comfortable ergonomic shape, great buttons and a flawless sensor. The best way to get information on the device - besides viewing watch-face complications - is still to launch apps. As Gurman points out, “Apps remained core to the Apple Watch. The widgets focus harks back to the Glances interface found on the first Apple Watch but long since discontinued. It’s appropriate that saving time is a priority on a gadget such as a watch, of course. Gurman says Apple is “set to give its watch lineup one of the biggest software updates since the original version - with a new focus on widgets and fundamental changes to how the device works.” This is intriguing, and Gurman says it’s designed so that you can get more information with the least amount of navigation. According to Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, the way you use your Apple Watch is going to change significantly with the arrival of watchOS 10, likely the platform on which the syncing feature below is going to launch. Hot on the heels of the latest rumor comes a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Plenty of time for full details to become apparent between now and late 2025, of course.Īpril 30 update. Will it mean that new screen tech will land on the Ultra first, and only for other models later on? We don’t know yet, though this seems the most likely to me. There’s another question to be answered: will Apple introduce microLED to the Apple Watch Ultra only, or to all its models at the same time? While it’s true that in the early days of Apple Watch the only difference between the cheapest and most expensive models was just the metal casing, the Ultra broke the mold by introducing an entirely different design. This sounds entirely plausible: it will be far from the first time that Apple has had to postpone the introduction of a new technology to one of its devices, after all. Normally, a drill sergeant is present from the 5 a.m. During the three weeks of the Red Phase, future 19K have maximum face-to-face time with their drill sergeants, who are all 19Ks. Drill sergeants deliberately attempt to force trainees out of their comfort zones. The Red Phase is the foundation that builds an adept and agile Soldier. Introduction to PRT and weapons- immersion program Let’s examine each phase in a little more detail. The five phases are Red, White and Blue for basic combat training, and Black and Gold for advanced individual training/military-occupation specialty-specific training. Each new volunteer is introduced to the Army through a five-phase, 15-week long OSUT. The 1st Battalion, 81st Armor Regiment, has four companies that train these new 19Ks. Army come from one place: Fort Benning, GA. Under the guidance of the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Armor School, all new Armor crewmen that units receive in the U.S. However, today’s 19K OSUT graduate can conduct dismounted operations and still effectively retain his knowledge of main-battle-tank operations at the -10 level of execution.įurther, with the implementation of the Army’s physical-readiness training program, injuries due to exercise have been reduced in virtually all categories, and final Army Physical Fitness Test failures are less than 5 percent (60/60/60 scale). Sayings such as “death before dismount” and “why walk when you can ride” were also commonplace among Soldiers during that time. Eighteen years ago, dismounted patrolling and urban operations were virtually unheard of during 19K OSUT. 19K one-station unit training continues to evolve as our missions, battlefields and enemies change. there's only gamblers (and merchants selling white tier starter gears.), potion and pet merchants. there's no gear merchants like in torchlight 1 2. I bought it on release, but haven't had time to play it yet, and I'm a fan of this series, since Torchlight 1 and 2 are one of my first Action-RPG games. The developers seem to have completed the game roadmap and finished the development of the game? I just wanted to play Torchlight 3 and don't know about the current state of the game yet. considering the unfinished and abandoned state of the game though, it's price should have been drastically reduced, or be put on sale very often. If i have to rank this game, i'd put this above unmodded torchlight 1, and almost as close as unmodded torchlight 2. even after all the mess its developer and publisher put it through. Yeah, it's still a somewhat enjoyable and playable diablo-like arpg. its definitely arpg lite though and unfortunately has some lingering bugs but nothing that makes it unplayable. the combat deserves more credit than it gets and i personally think is better than t2 in that regard. i got it on sale for 10 dollars, put in 30 hours so far and have enjoyed my time.
